How did Belev pastila arrive in Tashkent?

The taste of the apple baked into Belev pastila comes through clearly: the sweetness does not hide it under a thick glaze. The classic recipe is based on apple puree and egg white, with lingonberry, cranberry, blackcurrant or blueberry added for fruit varieties. The manufactory in the small town of Belev in Tula Oblast has preserved hand labor and 19th-century technology: apples are baked, turned into puree, whipped with egg white and dried in layers, using a Russian stove built in the 19th century. Behind the modest setting stands a significant industrial scale: five production sites process 20–25 tons of apples daily. The composition is short and clear — apples, berries and egg white, without artificial colors, flavorings or preservatives. In Uzbekistan, the pastila can be found in Organic Food and Fix Price stores and ordered via Uzum delivery.

"Our rescue ladders reach up to 72 meters": how are fires extinguished in high-rise buildings?

Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Khurshid Satiyev said that as construction of 50-story and taller buildings continues in Tashkent, special attention is being paid to fire safety. The tallest aerial ladders reach 72 meters, so fire safety standards of leading foreign countries are being studied at the design stage. High-rises must have smoke-protected staircases, fire lifts, and automatic extinguishing systems such as sprinklers and drenchers. Aziz Abduazizov noted that experience of the UAE, China and South Korea is being studied, and in buildings like Nest One and Pyramid Tower, fire trucks can rescue citizens from up to 72 meters, while a safe-zone evacuation practice is already in use.

Scientists discover why animals gather more around dead elephants

An international team led by a University of California, Santa Barbara scientist studied how elephant carcasses affect the savanna ecosystem. Examining 40 sites with remains up to 7.7 years old, they found soil ammonia up to 31 times higher (nearly 3,000 times at fresh sites), nitrates seven times and phosphorus three times higher. High ammonia proved toxic to plants, reducing plant and microbial diversity, yet surviving grasses were 1.5 times richer in nitrogen, attracting impalas and wildebeest that grazed there about three times more, even seven years after the elephant's death.
