Japanese journalist detained on espionage charges as he was about to fly out of Russia
According to DW, Russia's Foreign Ministry said on October 13 that journalist Imai Yuki had been detained by the Federal Security Service (FSB). The Interfax news agency, citing law enforcement bodies, reported that the Lefortovo court in Moscow imposed pre-trial detention on the correspondent. The FSB claims he collected information on Russia's defense capability on behalf of Japanese intelligence, including data on mobilized and volunteer fighters in the Kuril Islands. If convicted of espionage, he faces 10 to 20 years in prison.
