The key facts
- The Razorback driverless vehicle combines cargo delivery under fire with anti-drone capabilities
- Payload capacity of 1.8 tons, range of nearly 800 km, and up to 38 kW of power for external equipment
- The Edda turret detects and engages small drones at distances of 10 to 100 meters
The project combines Hypercraft's off-road Razorback vehicle, the AutoDrive autonomous driving system developed by Forterra, and the Edda turret from 9 Mothers into one.
The vehicle is designed to deliver cargo in conditions where supply routes are under fire. Performing such tasks without a driver is aimed at reducing the direct exposure of people to danger.
The Razorback is the first complete vehicle developed by Hypercraft, a company based in Provo, Utah. The company previously worked on electric power devices for commercial transport and later also launched defense-related developments.
The vehicle is over four meters long and has a payload capacity of up to 1.8 tons. According to Hypercraft, its range is nearly 800 kilometers. In addition, the vehicle can supply external equipment with up to 38 kilowatts of electrical power.
The design allows for the installation of additional sensors, radios, weapons, and other equipment depending on the mission. The fact that the Razorback was designed for autonomous operation from the start made it easier to install the AutoDrive control system.
The Edda turret mounted on the vehicle weighs approximately 23 kilograms. It detects small drones by the sound of their rotors, tracks them with cameras, and fires from a smoothbore gun. The system is designed to target drones at distances from 10 to 100 meters.
Thus, the new platform combines the capabilities of autonomous military supply delivery and counter-drone warfare in a single vehicle.
