In Uzbekistan, starting from 2027, a labeling system for non-alcoholic beverages in various colors depending on their sugar content may be introduced. The Ministry of Health has put the draft government resolution on this matter up for public discussion published.
According to the proposal, starting from January 1, 2027, when stamping non-alcoholic beverages produced in and imported into Uzbekistan, the following mandatory warning labels will be applied based on the total sugar content per 100 ml of product:
when sugar content is between 5 and 8 grams - in black on a yellow background: "MODERATE SUGAR CONTENT";
when sugar content is between 8 and 11 grams - in black on an orange background: "HIGH SUGAR CONTENT";
when sugar content is 11 grams or higher - in white on a red background: "VERY HIGH SUGAR CONTENT - FREQUENT CONSUMPTION IS HARMFUL TO HEALTH".
These labels must meet the following requirements:
be placed on the front of the product packaging;
occupy at least 15 percent of the total surface area of the packaging;
be expressed in contrasting colors;
be positioned so as to be clearly visible to the consumer at first glance;
be accompanied by a QR code containing information about the product's composition, calorie content, and daily consumption norm.
The Food Products Safety Committee shall:
approve a unified methodology for laboratory testing of non-alcoholic beverages by March 1, 2027;
by September 1, 2027, ensure that laboratories accredited on the basis of this methodology
